About Us

John O’Hara
I have been licensed in Real Estate since 1995 and in that time I have seen many changes in both Anchorage and the real estate market. It is a wonderful career and I very much still enjoy helping clients with all of their real estate needs. I started with representing a builder in my early days and that taught me a wealth of knowledge about new construction, energy efficiency and the complications of building homes in an arctic climate. I currently specialize in Anchorage, Eagle River, Chugiak/Peters Creek and surrounding areas. I have lots of experience finding and marketing single-family homes, condos, and multi-family properties. I have won many awards throughout my career such as Lifetime Achievement, Platinum Club, 100% Club and numerous Top Producer awards. In 2017, I moved from RE/MAX Properties after 23 wonderful years. I spent a couple years with Century 21 and was the recipient of the prestigious Diamond Award for my sales performance, before opening my own brokerage in 2019.
My personal time is spent enjoying many outdoor activities including hiking, biking, skiing, hockey, fishing and camping. I also enjoy listening to music and travel when and if my busy schedule allows. I am a strong supporter of Children’s Miracle Network, Anchorage Center for the Blind and numerous other non-profits and charitable organizations. I feel it is very important to give back to my community in whatever method is available to me.
I am a strong believer in continuing education so I can keep on top of the latest trends in real estate as well as technologies to advance my business. I have earned many designations throughout my career including Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE), and the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation that is only held by the top 3% of Realtors nationally. I continue to exceed the education requirements for renewing my license every year but I also believe the best education is working in the field. I sell real estate full time and have since 1995. Over the years, I have built a support team to assist me in providing excellent service during and after your real estate transaction. Together, we provide award-wining service and manage every transaction with a personal touch so you know you are well-represented.

Sherry Buckley
Licensed Buyer’s Assistant
Born on the East Coast, I have been an Alaska resident for 47 years, proudly calling Anchorage my home. Real Estate has always interested me so, after retiring from the Municipality of Anchorage with 30 years of customer service, I decided to pursue a career as a Licensed Buyer’s Assistant. My Master’s Degree in Human Resource Development has helped me in client interaction and meeting our client’s expectations.
My real estate career is challenging and interesting. My commitment to clients is my first priority and it is always a pleasure to meet new people. Family roots are firmly planted here.
When not working, I can be found at various family & school events involving my eight grandchildren. I enjoy traveling to new places and, of course, interacting with people.
Real estate has definitely broadened my outlook and I look forward to working as a Licensed Buyer’s Assistant for many years to come!

How I ended up in Alaska is a question that I am often asked. I was ready for an adventure! I was done at junior college and needed a change of scenery from LA. A friend that had worked up in Alaska told me it would be a great place to go and safe for a girl traveling by herself. So, up to the last frontier I went! Wow! Little did I know the excitement that was in store for me! I spent the summer hitchhiking down to Homer where I worked a bit, then hitched over to Seward and then headed north as far as Circle! What an adventure it was meeting so many people that went out of their way to get me to where I needed to be and offering places to stay along the way. I found the kindness of Alaskans to be very welcoming. People drove me places just to make sure I’d get there safely or just because they had some time in their day for a drive. I met some of my longest closest Alaskan friends that summer. As my summer started to near the end by Alaskan summer standards, by August the grasses were starting to turn orange. My curiosity of what this place was like in the winter captured my interest. I never grew up in winter, we took road trips to drive to the mountains to see what winter was as a kid.
As I returned home, I found myself dreaming of the wide-open space, a longing to spend a whole winter skiing and snowboarding and finding out was it really that dark? So, two months later I landed myself back in Anchorage in October, where two days later the snow fell and 25 winters later, I’m still watching the snow fall.
These days during my free time I’ve got two Newfoundlands that keep me busy with dog walks, training and grooming the hairy beasts. I enjoy getting out in the winter to snowboard or cross-country ski peacefully in the woods. Spring and summer provide fun times with biking, paddle boarding, camping and fishing, if there is any live music along the way you may also find me there. Art is a love of mine so when dark nights come along in winter, I like to create new projects.
After many years of thinking about real estate, the idea of learning about houses and seeing houses interested me. Working in the hospitality service for many years I have always felt comfortable amongst strangers and easy with conversing and guiding someone that is working towards a goal. I decided to quit thinking about it and do something about it. I sought out where to get my pre-licensing course and into a rookie program at a well-established respectable real estate brokerage. After being there for several years I found myself joining the John O’Hara Team where I can’t see myself doing real estate anywhere else. I enjoy helping clients in the search for the right home to fit their needs. Helping clients that are selling their homes is something that I also love. Guiding people through the process and helping them to start a new chapter in their lives and making the transition as smooth as possible is something I and the John O’Hara team strive for.

“John O’Hara is an excellent agent who we found to be conscientious and helpful during all facets of the purchase process. He worked tirelessly, and patiently for us to find the right property. His sense of humor and demeanor were always a pleasure. John’s knowledge of procedures and methods, local property value, financing and so much more were invaluable. John is an honest and honorable man who worked very hard to see that our best interests were looked after. I have recommended John to my friends and will use him again when opportunity allows.“
“We were extremely pleased with the service and professionalism of our Realtor, Mr. John O’Hara of Re/Max Properties, Inc. He always sought to make things easy for us and clearly explained everything. He was always readily available, day or night and really worked hard for us. We nearly took for granted his generosity of always driving out from Anchorage to Eagle River to meet with us; in fact we never did meet in his office. He worked for us around our schedule and we appreciated that. I would highly recommend the expert care of Mr. O’Hara.“
“I met John in 1998 when he helped me buy a house. Since then we have purchased two more houses, sold one and are in the process of selling another all with John. His negotiating skills are impressive. He has techniques to ensure that your bid is selected in a multiple bid situation without way overpaying. One of the houses he sold went in one day. He helped me buy a foreclosure for significantly less than asking price AND helped me get the deal closed within 30 days. This guy is WORTH THE MONEY!“
“Without John O’Hara, we wouldn’t have closed on our house. He is extremely patient and knowledgeable and perhaps most importantly in the home buying process, exceedingly honest.”
“John was amazing! He went above and beyond!“
“John helped us sell our Spenard condo and was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. “John O’Hara helped my wife and I find our current home. He was very responsive, friendly, and completely walked us through our first time home buying experience. John showed us numerous homes and encouraged us to put an offer on a home that fit our needs. It was one of the best decisions we ever made.
My wife and I look forward to working with John again when it comes time to sell our current home and buy a larger home in the future. I highly recommend John based on his integrity, negotiating skills, and his positive attitude.“
“Looking back at 1997, one of the highlights was our move to Juneau. We are really grateful for everything that you did, in helping us to sell the house on 2802 Klamath Drive. You were very diligent to take care of every detail, from big to small, and from start to finish. We felt very fortunate to have had as hard working, professional as youself working for us. Winnie and I would not hesitate to recommend you to anyone with a real estate need. Thank you again for all your hard work, and making the sale of our home smooth, painless, and pleasant.“

I have paid and received the best prices for my properties and the process went smoothly each time. I could not be happier with his services.“
